Birthday Road Trip 2017 – Dallas, TX

  • by

I just discovered that I never posted pics from my birthday trip to Dallas last year. I was there during the eclipse and got to hang out with my friend Tracy for whom I was a bridesmaid at her wedding this year.

Dallas is one of my favorite cities in the U.S. and I’ve probably visited over 20 times in my life. I actually spend 6 months working here and I learned my way around the city. Even with all of that there are still places that I haven’t explored in depth. For this trip I picked a hotel in Plano which is the northern part of the metroplex.

Turkish Cuisine

One of the highlights of the trip was indulging my Turkish obsession with trips to two local restaurants. I had lunch at Pera Turkish Kitchen located on Preston Rd. It’s a quaint family-owned restaurant serving traditional Mediterranean favorites.

The day of the eclipse I met up with my friend for lunch at Café Istanbul located in the Shops at Legacy in Plano, a mixed-used development with retail, restaurants, and residential. I love these types of mixed used projects because you park one and almost everything you need is a few footsteps away.

We got there about 45 minutes before the eclipse started and ate our way through it…literally! It was a lively atmosphere at lunchtime with my friend and I taking turns to go out and look up at the sun through our special glasses which I picked up before I left Memphis. Here are few photos from that day.

From Dallas to Waco – Magnolia Market @ The Silos

I decided to drive to Waco to visit Chip & Joanna Gaines’ new place called Magnolia Market at the Silos. I wanted to visit and also drop off some samples of my Olivia & Ruby products which I think would be a great fit for their store.

The Silos are a textbook case of making something out of nothing using the former grain silos as the focus element. It’s a really cool place with shopping, food trucks, covered picnic area, and a large yard for playing. It’s a really cool place…just don’t come in August when it’s two thousand degrees.
